How does it work?

A heat detector is suitable for those locations where a false alarm is likely to occur with a standard smoke detector due to steam, cooking flame or particles (e.g., burning toast). Typically, in a kitchen or in the room of a heavy smoker.

Not only does the heat detector automatically sound an alarm in the home when it is activated, it also simultaneously sends an alarm to the monitoring centre via the social alarm unit so that the most appropriate and immediate action can be taken. If the heat detector is interlinked with other detectors the alarm sound in all detectors.

Important! A heat detector should never be used in a bedroom since it will only detect smoke at a high temperature (57 °C) and this may pose risk for a sleeping person. A regular smoke detector is advised in bedrooms.

The use of wireless technology means minimal disruption to fixtures and fittings during installation, as well as easy relocation of detectors if needed.

What problem does it solve?

Fire is by far one of the most serious threats to people at home. Every year house fires cause hundreds of deaths and damage many homes. Homes with detectors discover fires more rapidly than those without and are associated with lower casualty rates and less damage. The importance of being connected to a monitoring centre cannot be stressed enough. This ensures that the emergency services can be contacted on behalf of the vulnerable adult who may not hear or be able to respond to a stand-alone alarm.
